"Friday" Singer Rebecca Black Is a Millionaire
Since hitting the online music store last Monday, "Friday" has amassed a staggering number of downloads, reportedly topping 2 million; the song currently sits at #45 on the iTunes Top Singles chart. According to 101 Distribution, an independent music distributor, iTunes pays out $.70 per single download in the United States. That's a much juicier check for Black and Ark Music Factory; even if the numbers are exaggerated, the intake from "Friday" could easily top $1 million. What's more, Black is planning to release an acoustic version of the song to disprove speculation that her voice is reliant on AutoTune. Cha-ching! (Forbes)

Stop Anthropomorphizing Me
I know this is going to come across a bit harsh, but I want to get straight to the point. Speaking on behalf of myself and all other completely nonhuman members of my species, I must insist that the practice of anthropomorphizing us stops right now.
I am not a human. I am a dog. I can't talk. I can't say a full sentence. Not even close. I can't experience complex emotions, I can't laugh, I can't rob a bank, and I have no idea that my name is Gerald. I can't even write, people, so please stop this anthropomorphizing business this instant.
It's not funny.
The amusement you get out of this unoriginal, overused—what shall I call it?—this fetish simply boggles the mind. What is your fascination with having animals speak? I'm a dog, for crying out loud. My brain weighs three-and-a-half ounces. Three-and-a-half ounces. I can barely understand what's going on around me, and what little knowledge I do possess is based primarily on smell. So tell me, why do you keep putting me at poker tables and making me dance and sing the blues? I do not wear hats and I certainly did not receive my doctorate in media criticism from Harvard University. I can assure you, if I were ever given a diploma, I would eat it. So, I beg you, for the last time, stop this right now.

Bee Stuck Between Screen Door, Front Door Going Fucking Nuts
Users of the front door at 1418 Sycamore Avenue report the appearance of a common bumblebee ricocheting back and forth between the front and screen doors in a manner described as "pissed." According to witnesses, no one has been able to ascertain how the bee became trapped between the two portals, but it is totally losing it and will absolutely sting someone if it gets out, most likely in the eye. "Look at the size of that thing," homeowner Tony Paris said. "He's just going nuts. Just fly out of there, bee, come on." At press time, the bee was resting for a moment before resuming flipping the fuck out.

As You Can See From My Name-Brand Clothing, I Am Not Poor
Just because I happen to live with my four brothers and sisters in my mom's two-bedroom South Side apartment, work at Taco Bell, and don't have a car, some ignorant types assume that I don't have much money. But, as you can clearly see from my $220 Fubu jacket and $95 Tommy Hilfiger sweatshirt, I could not possibly be poor.
The kind of name-brand clothing I wear is very expensive. See these Karl Kani jeans? Eighty-eight dollars. Would I spend that kind of money on a pair of jeans if I were poor? Of course not. If I were poor, I'd think $88 was way too much to spend on a pair of jeans that, with the exception of a tiny Karl Kani logo embroidered on the front right pocket, are practically indistinguishable from a plain old pair of $25 Levi's. But I don't think that's too much to spend because, for a well-off person like myself, money is no object.

Nuclear energy: Risk of meltdown
"If Japan, the United States, or Europe retreats from nuclear power in the face of the current panic, the most likely alternative energy source is fossil fuel. And by any measure, fossil fuel is more dangerous. The sole fatal nuclear power accident of the last 40 years, Chernobyl, directly killed 31 people. By comparison, Switzerland's Paul Scherrer Institute calculates that from 1969 to 2000, more than 20,000 people died in severe accidents in the oil supply chain. More than 15,000 people died in severe accidents in the coal supply chain—11,000 in China alone. The rate of direct fatalities per unit of energy production is 18 times worse for oil than it is for nuclear power.
Even if you count all the deaths plausibly related to Chernobyl—9,000 to 33,000 over a 70-year period—that number is dwarfed by the death rate from burning fossil fuels. The OECD's 2008 Environmental Outlook calculates that fine-particle outdoor air pollution caused nearly 1 million premature deaths in the year 2000, and 30 percent of this was energy-related. You'd need 500 Chernobyls to match that level of annual carnage. But outside Chernobyl, we've had zero fatal nuclear power accidents."

U of A's Derrick Williams is 2010 Pac-10 Player of Year
From the Tucson Citizen:
Arizona Wildcats sophomore forward Derrick Williams is the sixth player in school history to be the Pac-10 Player of the Year for men’s basketball.
The Pac-10 announced its postseason awards Monday, with Williams taking the top honor, as selected by the league’s coaches. He averaged 18.8 points and 8.2 rebounds in the regular season.
Arizona’s Sean Miller was selected the Pac-10 Coach of the Year.
This is the seventh overall Player of the Year award for Arizona — Sean Elliott won it twice — but the first since Jason Terry in 1999.
Here are Arizona’s previous winners of the Pac-10 Player of the Year Award:
–Sean Elliott, forward, 1987-88
–Sean Elliott, forward, 1988-89
–Chris Mills, forward, 1992-93
–Damon Stoudamire, guard, 1994-95
–Mike Bibby, guard, 1997-98
–Jason Terry, guard, 1998-99
Now, that is also amazing. In a 12-season span, Arizona earned half of the league’s Player of the Year honors.

How Watson Could Have Been Defeated on Jeopardy
Homemade Chocolate-Dipped Beer Marshmallows
The Chocolate-Dipped Beer Marshmallows recipe posted on the kitchn draws its inspiration from the beer and pretzel marshmallows you can buy from Chicago chocolatier Truffle Truffle. Now you can make them in your own home, using about 2 dozen marshmallows, flat dark beer, milk chocolate, stick pretzels, and a few other common ingredients.
