The Adventures of Lexton: Super Savings Account

My friend Jordan Gosin and his brother Josh have written a book for children and I thought I'd bring some attention to it here. The goal of the book is to teach children about future career paths in a fun way.

In the first volume of the series "The Adventures of Lexton: Super Savings Account", the book's main character, Lexton Lionberg wants a skateboard, but doesn't have enough money. Through learning how to save for the skateboard from family members and bank employees, Lexton learns the importance of saving and how a savings account is better than a piggy bank.

The book features illustrations by Disney cartoonist Barry Gottleib and is fun and educational for children.

You can purchase the book online at CreateSpace or Amazon.com.

I hope you'll check it out and spread the word. Contact me if you'd like to talk to the Goose Brothers about the books.

-Matt

Disney World Light Cycle Monorail

In a bit of cool cross-promotional synergy, Disney will paint its Disney World monorails with light cycles from its upcoming Tron Legacy movie... the repainted monorails, which feature snazzy versions of the new generation light cycles from the upcoming 3-D sequel to the classic 1982 sci-fi movie. | SCI FI Wire

Vampire Weekend - "Giving Up the Gun"

Your sword's grown old and rusty, burnt beneath the rising sun
It's locked up like a trophy, forgetting all the things it's done
And though it's been a long time, you're right back where you started from
I see it in your eyes that now you’re giving up the gun

Proverbial Shit

He’d spent years cultivating a perfectly messy study. So to find that someone had stuffed a red volume on the umber-only bookshelves? Well, the proverbial shit hit the fan.

Titus Andronicus: March 6, 2010 at Bowery Ballroom

I find myself listening to Titus Andronicus’s second album, the Civil War/NJ-themed The Monitor quite a bit. Not because Patrick Stickles wrote an amusingly accurate takedown of Vice culture: The songs rage more powerfully and with more direction (i.e. the ragtag has focus). You no longer need to qualify things by saying they’re great live, or whatever... | Stereogum

The Monitor may be a concept record, but any trace of scholarly snobbery is hidden by the group’s thrilling country-punk racket, powered by bar-band guitar riffage, violins, bagpipes, horns and what sounds like any other instrument the band could get their hands on. | Rolling Stone

You can download some of their songs below (right click, save link as):

"Four Score and Seven Part One"
"Four Score and Seven Part Two"
"A More Perfect Union"

Daytrotter also has a few of their songs you can download and a write-up about them.

Hopefully it will be a good show!

We Are Country Mice / Turbo Fruits at Mercury Lounge 2/28/10

I saw We Are Country Mice and Turbo Fruits open for Surfer Blood at sold-out Mercury Lounge last Sunday night. We were right up against the stage, so I had a great view of the bands and the show, although my hearing still hasn't recovered...

Although both musically bands still sound a little green, they were both pretty good, really entertaining to watch, and they were having a lot fun on stage. The drummer for We Are Country Mice was really energetic and the lead singer of Turbo Fruits came out into the crowd at one point. Disappointingly, We Are Country Mice introduced themselves as "We are Country Mice" instead of "We are We Are Country Mice".

The headlining band, Surfer Blood, was awesome live and are rapidly becoming one of my favorites. I created a post for them a few weeks ago HERE.

Here are some more pictures from the show:
